Members

Invite people into your Burrow, choose the role each one holds, and cut or remove their access when that changes.

Updated Sep 28, 2026

Members are the people who can sign in to your Burrow. Each one holds a role, which decides what they can see and do there. Whoever claimed the Burrow is its Owner.

The Members page#

Select Members in the navigation. It lists everyone in the Burrow, the Owner first, followed by invitations that haven't been accepted yet.

Column

Shows

Member

Their username and email address. An invitation shows the address it was sent to.

Role

Their role, or Owner. An invitation is tagged Invited, and a member whose access is cut is tagged Disabled.

Since

When they joined, when the invitation was sent, or when their access was disabled.

Anyone whose role can view members sees this page. Inviting, changing roles, and disabling access need permission to edit members, and removing someone needs permission to delete them. See Roles for how permissions are set.

Inviting someone#

  1. Select + at the top of the members list.

  2. Enter their email address and choose a role. Member is selected to start with.

  3. Select Send invitation.

RatelKey emails them a link that works for 72 hours. If they don't have a RatelKey account yet, the link lets them create one. They join the Burrow once they sign in, or once they confirm their email address on a new account. Anyone invited to several Burrows joins all of them at the same moment.

The role is fixed when the invitation is sent. To correct it, invite the same address again: the new invitation replaces the old one, and the earlier link stops working. You can't invite someone onto a role that grants more than you hold yourself, or invite someone who is already a member.

Changing a member's role#

Open the member's row menu and select Change role. The dialog shows the role they hold now and the one they would move to, with how many permissions each grants. Choose the new role and select Change role.

You can't move anyone, yourself included, onto a role that grants more than you hold, and you can't change the role of someone who holds more than you do.

Disabling and restoring access#

Open the member's row menu and select Disable access. They are signed out of the Burrow at once and can't sign back in. They stay on the members list with their role, so nothing needs setting up again later.

To give their access back, select Enable access from the same menu. They keep the role they had and sign in again to use it. You can't disable your own access.

Removing a member#

Open the member's row menu and select Remove. They are signed out at once and taken off the list. Their RatelKey account and any other Burrows they belong to are unaffected. To let them back in, invite them again.

For an invitation that hasn't been accepted, the same menu has Withdraw invitation, and the link they were sent stops working.

Members and your plan#

Your plan sets how many members a Burrow can have. The Owner, every member with access, and every outstanding invitation each take a place. Disabled members don't, so enabling one again needs a free place. If the Burrow is full, sending an invitation or enabling a member tells you so, and the pricing page shows the plans with more room.

When changes take effect#

The Burrow checks each member's access with RatelKey on every request. A role change, a disabled member, or a removal applies to that person's very next action, without waiting for them to sign out. Every change made here is recorded in the audit log.
